A FAITHFUL DOG

A Faithful Dog Will Play With You
And Laugh With You -Or Cry-
He'll Gladly Starve To Stay With You
Nor Ever Reason Why,
And When You're Feeling Out Of Sorts
Somehow He'll Understand
He'll Watch You With His Shining Eyes
And Try To Lick Your Hand.
His Blind, Implicit Faith In You
Is Matched By His Great Love -
The Kind That All Of Us Should Have
In The Master, Up Above.
When Everything Is Said And Done
I Guess This Isn't Odd
For When You Spell "Dog" Backwards
You Get The Name Of God.

A lovely poem submitted by Brenda

Those we love remain with us,
For love itself lives on
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart
For as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.

(In memory of: Brandee, Fluffy, Tiffany, Baby, Tigger, and Missy)

 I Lost a Friend Today
   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *

I Lost a Treasured Friend Today
Who chased my loneliness away.
My best friend up until this day
Was always there in every way.

His gentle head laid on my lap
Was always there for lots of pats.
Shared silent thoughts and play with ease
And give me love regardless of his needs.

He'll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more his favorite ball.
A voice far greater than my own
Called my best friend to his Golden home.

Although my eyes are filled with tears
I'm thankful for our wonderful years.
I'm thankful for his loyalty and love
I know he's waiting up above.

And when it's time for me to go
And join him there, this much I know...
I shall not fear the transient dark
For he will greet me with his bark.

My Dog
I had my dog for years when he got sick and died.
On and off for weeks and months, I'd think of him and cry.
He was a great dog and did what great dogs should;
He played & loved & wagged his tail and always understood.

One day I went to the park where we used to play.
My heart was heavy with sadness; I missed him so much that day.
I was sitting by a tree and couldn't believe my eyes,
When off in the distance appeared a dog about his size.

There was something strangely familiar about that dog's gait.
My heart filled with anticipation and I just couldn't wait.
I got up and starting running toward him and he was running too.
When we met, I caught my breath; I couldn't believe it was true.

Before me stood my dog, but with the strangest thing;
On his back by his ridge was now a set of wings.
I reached out to pet him and he looked into my eyes,
The love was overwhelming and I began to cry.

He snuggled up against me and licked my tears away.
Without a word spoken, he relieved my fears that day.
I now knew he had gone to heaven, where my faithful friend would wait,
looking forward to the day when he would meet me at the gate.

OLD DOG IN A LOCKET

Old dog in a locket
That lays next to my heart
I will always love you
As I did right from the start.

You were right beside me
Through the darkest of my days
It was your kind and gentle nature
That made me want to stay.

Now I hold you in my arms
Your breath still warm against my hand
Our hearts still beat together
And I wonder if you understand.

Through the hours that I held you
Before the light did leave your soul
I knew a way to keep you
Forever in my hold.

I snipped the hair from around your eyes
So I would always see
The beauty that surrounds me
Even in times of need.

I snipped the hair from around your ears
So I would always hear
Music in the distance
To quiet any fears.

I snipped the hair from across your back
To bring me strength in time of need
And that the power of your essence
Would always be with me.

I snipped the hair from around your heart
That beat in time with mine
So love would know to find me
At some other distant time.

And so, your life slipped out of mine
On a quiet spring like day
But I knew that a part of you
Was always here to stay.

Old dog in a locket
That lays next to my heart
I will always love you
Even though we had to part.
